Self-Love

This week on SHE TALKS we are discussing Self-love/Self-care and the importance of getting in tune with yourself. This week’s featured lady is Sidney Llado. We are really diving deep into her Self-Love/Self-care practices. If you are interested in learning some new practices or fine tuning yours, keep reading:

Q: What ways do you practice self-love/self-care that involves putting your needs before others?

A: I try my best to take care of myself physically, mentally, and emotionally. For example, I go to the gym 3 times a week so that I can stay fit. I have removed negative people from my life who are toxic and will not help me to be a better person. I have come to realized that sometimes it is ok to be selfish.

Q: Would you say that you forgive yourself often? If so, how do you do that? If not, explain why not?

A: I would say that I do. Holding a grudge against myself and staying upset will get me nowhere. I tell myself that whatever I did that needs forgiving was meant to happen so that I can learn and grow from it, and not make the same mistake in the future.

Q: What ways do you release your emotions?

A: Music definitely helps, as well as the gym. Of course, having my best friend to vent to is helpful, too. But sometimes I just need to let it all out and have a good cry. Then I wake up the next day and feel so much better.

Q: What is holding you back from practicing self-love?

A: Myself. I can be lazy at times, especially being in grad school, there are times where I don’t feel like doing anything for myself besides lay in bed. Having more money would help too (LOL).

Q: How do you practice self-love/self-care on a daily basis?

A: I am working on getting my sleep schedule in better shape so that my energy during the day is increased and I can be more productive. I am less concerned about what people think of me, as long as I am happy with myself. Personal hygiene is also part of my self-love/self-care routine. It is important that I take care of my physical appearance. Every now and then, I will treat myself and go shopping. Lastly, I constantly remind myself to be my own biggest fan; I am a strong, independent, Black woman who gets it done!

Q: Do you practice gratitude? Explain

A: Yes, every morning I wake up and thank God for waking me up and giving me another day of life, the opportunity to receive an education, to improve on myself, having a roof over my head, having food to eat, clothes to wear, and for blessing me with my family. Nothing but gratitude!

I hope that you were able to take some information away from Sidney and begin implementing, if you have not already a self-care practice/routine that ensures your health, wealth, and sanity.

Self-love/Self-care is the FOUNDATION. Begin by implementing little things every single day that builds up to your optimal routine and lifestyle. Affirm everyday the things about yourself that are true like Sidney. Start using the words, “I am…” [INSERT YOUR TRUTH] everyday until the things that you say become your reality.

Don’t beat yourself up when you do not take care of yourself. It happens, it is natural, especially for women to take care of others before we take care of ourselves, but never stop and give up. Get back into it. Find the things that you are most passionate about and make that a part of your routine, so that it will not feel like a chore. Make it fun! Your Self-love/Self-care practice/routine is not defined by anyone else, but yourself.

Do not forget to stay connected with Sidney and follow her on Instagram! Until next time ladies, STAY BLESSED! STAY HUMBLE! DARE TO BE BOLD!
